Pothencode: Young minds are highly susceptible to influence, and this is precisely why drug mafias target adolescents, said Dr. Mohanan Kunnummal, Vice Chancellor of the Kerala University of Health Sciences.
He was inaugurating the two-day national seminar jointly organized by the Vidya Vikas Kendra and the Santhigiri Social Research Institute at Santhigiri Siddha Medical College, Pothencode.
Dr. Kunnummal said that the human body, which is understood in the Indian knowledge tradition through the five sheaths (Pancha Koshas)—Annamaya Kosha, Pranamaya Kosha, Manomaya Kosha, Vijnanamaya Kosha and Anandamaya Kosha—cannot be fully comprehended merely through scans or modern diagnostic tools. The human mind plays a central role in health and well-being, he added.
He pointed out that human beings alone possess the unique ability to acquire knowledge, transform it into new ideas and develop innovative thinking. The knowledge we gain stimulates the brain to generate fresh thoughts and perspectives. Those who cultivate creative ideas and original thinking are the ones who succeed in life, while individuals with exceptional intellectual ability have the potential to transform the world.
Above all, he said, it is the Guru who enables individuals to experience the true state of inner bliss. Such an experience can be felt in every institution established by Gurudev Shri Karunakara Guru, he remarked.
The seminar, themed “Pancha Kosha Vikas: Integration of Indian Medical and Knowledge Systems,” began with a keynote address by National Coordinator A. Vinod.
The inaugural session was presided over by Dr. P. Hariharan, Principal-in-Charge of Santhigiri Siddha Medical College. R. Jayakrishnan, Coordinator of Vidya Vikas Kendra, B. K. Priyesh Kumar, South Zone Coordinator of the Indian Knowledge System, Dr. Nandakumar C. G., Anita Sharma, Dr. M. Santhosh Kumar, Dr. Swami Gurunand Jnanathapaswi, Dr. Janani Ramyaprabha Jnanathapaswini, Dr. Pragya, Dr. A. Jennifer Lancy, Dr. Arundev P. R., and Dr. Rajeev R. Warrier will lead technical sessions on various themes during the seminar.
The seminar aims to explore the subtle and multidimensional framework of human well-being presented through the Pancha Kosha concept in the Indian Knowledge Systems. At a time when modern medicine is increasingly turning to neuroscience to understand the brain-body connection, the seminar seeks to integrate traditional Indian wisdom with contemporary scientific perspectives.
